13th June 2026: unbelievably, we found ourselves heading for Pusand Bay today, despite all setbacks! Left Bramwell Station Tourist Park by 9 am and headed onto the Bamaga Road. The first 2 hours were a bit rough as the road was full of corrugations, but we drove slowly, communicating with those who wished to fly past us via UHF, indicating we would pull over and slow down if required!

The remains of our Telstra Extender , with its stripped thread, and from which re removed the antenna last night, finally vibrated off, but was hanging by a wire! We stopped and I taped it down using the extra-strong T-Rex version of duct tape!

We reached Fruit Bat Falls but decided to keep going and visit the Falls on the way back down! After that the road improved somewhat, with stretches of bitumen. The vegetation was more tropical with grass trees and fan palms We saw another monitor lizard on the road which we managed avoided hitting.

We got to Jardine River Ferry by 12.45pm and had to wait until lunch break was over at 1 pm to cross! It cost $250 by card not cash for the return journey of 5 minutes each way!

There were a few more rough patches of corrugations and we eventually reached Bamaga, where we filled up with Diesel at $2.70/L at BP, and we took the $200 each we were allowed out at the ATM there, “just in case”.

From there it was a short drive to Pusand  Bay via the Pusand  Bay road. This proved to be a busy camp ground right on the beach. We backed the caravan onto a bush site overlooking the beach, and unhooked! Amazingly , the repaired shock Absorber that Wayne fixed for us remained in good shape!

We celebrated the fact that we have almost reached the Tip of Cape York, something that seemed impossible a day ago when we found that broken shock absorber! We had an omelette with lots of vegetables and a salad with a bottle of Church Block Wirra Wirra Cab Sauv Shiraz Merlot!

Tomorrow  we leave the caravan here and go to the Tip!
