4th July: Nic made a number of phone calls in regards to getting our inverter repaired or replaced. Apparently this model of inverter is susceptible to vibration and the installation position needs this to be taken into account. Redarc still recommend the RV Autoelectrics in Perth so despite the guy there dilly dallying with us he appears to be our best option.

We proceeded to Kalbarri National Park, noting the appearance of Xanthorrhoea ( Grass trees) in the landscape of generally low shrubs. We visited the Kalbarri Skywalk- a very impressive design and engineering feat sticking out over the edge of the Murchison river gorge. We then did a short walk to Natures window. All path surfaces have been thoughtfully prepared for the user, even for those with a disability.

After all the looking out over the gorge we decided to do the Z bend river trail. This was a grade 4 walk with lots of clambering over rocks and 4 ladders to climb down to get to the gorge floor. It was filled with ponds of water where some people were swimming but it looked quite shallow- a different story after rain. We then visited the Z bend lookout. All along the trail I could hear birds but not see them except for the white breasted wood swallow and a black and white bird that another walker thought was a pied honeyeater.

We proceeded into Kalbarri for a quick trip to IGA and a drive along the coast road for a short distance to get an idea of how big Kalbarri is. We narrowly missed a huge billygoat running across the road- confirmation of the many feral goats in the area.

We will venture further down the coast tomorrow on our way to Nambung.
