15th July - a much brighter day today without the cold wind of the previous days. We strolled up and down the single main Street of Kalgoorlie- Hannan Street - where many shops were vacant with only food and nail shops and real estate agents remaining open and of course the pubs!. Almost all the clothing shops were vacant. Apparently there are 10,000 fly-in fly-out workers in Kalgoorlie now, displacing the locals according to a long term unemployed man we met. Rents are supposedly astronomically high. This is borne out by the fact than in our caravan park we are surrounded by workers going to work early in the morning in their high viz vests from their vans and vehicles.
We then went to the Goldfields Kalgoorlie Golf course where we played holes 10 to 18. Holes 10 and 11 are the first 2 holes of the Nullarbor golf course that we have signed up and paid up to play!
Pasta and Vegie sauce and Parmesan for dinner washed down with Heaps normal for Nic and Matso’s ginger beer for me!
