23rd July: In the light of day there really was a great view of the coast from Eucla Caravan Park. We then went to see the ruins of the old Telegraph Station, and as we reached there, we were horrified to realise that one of our front hatch doors had come off, as a consequence of us not securing it properly. Fortunately we found it and we were able to retrieve and re-install it, the hinges stabilised by my trusty black electrical tape! Another potential catastrophe averted! We then found and played the Nullarbor links par 3 at Eucla, a reasonably straight forward hole with lovely little pink pea type flowers all over the fairway, otherwise covered in stones and mysterious small black rubber pieces

We drove on again to Border Village to play another par 3. We had a picnic lunch in the van trying to finish off fruit and vegetables before quarantine control at the border. In the event, the border was un-patrolled and we have until Penong where there will be a formal check apparently.

The Eyre highway ran parallel to the coast, with several viewing points of the beach and cliffs. The vegetation really has flatted out to low scrub and grasses, but it isn’t the desert we were expecting!

We found a free camp a little way off the highway about 30km west of Nullarbor, where we will play another hole tomorrow. We had an omelette using the last onion and tomatoes with some cheese for dinner.
