July 3rd: Left Wooramel River Retreat and drove along North West highway till the Kalbarri turn-off. Gradually the Spinifex and low bushes gave rise to acacias and casurinas. The road was mostly single lane and we travelled at our steady 85km/ hour wishing to avoid any further tyre issues. There were overtaking lanes, and if we have a truck behind us we are able to let them know via our CB radio that we will slow down if they want to pass us. It works well! As we reached the Ajani Kalbarri turnoff suddenly the vegetation changed to arable land and there were crops on either side of the road with rolling hills. We reached our destination at about 2pm- The Murchison House Station- a farm whose main business is export of feral goats after mustering them. It has 25 camping sites along the Murchison River in amongst gum trees. Our inverter has not worked since our puncture, and Nic has been trying to communicate with various Redarc agents in Perth. Meanwhile we are able to plug into Starlink via Nic’s very old inverter we used to use when camping. We set up camp and went for a walk along the river before I cooked us a dinner of mushroom risotto and salad.
