July 25th- Rain greeted us in the morning but amazingly cleared so that we could play our par 4 hole at Penong, overshadowed by a great number of windmills used to pump water by many individual Penongians!
On Anna’s recommendation, we headed to Cactus Beach via the Point Sinclair road to Lake McDonnell. Lake Mc Donnell is apparently usually very pink but the weather drained it of its colour today for us! Cactus Beach was spectacularly wild with no beach left just large waves in each direction, with no surfers visible at all, or anyone else for that matter!
We walked around the campground which looked wonderful and we hope to come back here when we explore the Eyre Peninsula
. We then went on to Port LeHunte where there is a jetty from which boats used to transport wheat, gypsum and salt from the area to other parts of SA.
We then continued on to Ceduna to play the 1st and 18th holes, both par 5’s and the last of our Nullarbor Links 18 hole course.we put in a reasonably mediocre performance but conditions were difficult! The rain fortunately held off! We went to the Visitors centre to get our cards stamped and receive our certificates of completion of the course, with fortunately no mention of our scores! I had a quick trip to the supermarket and we headed out to a caravan park at Shelley Beach where we got a drive through site at the back of the sand dunes bordering the beach. I did a load of washing, then made us mushroom risotto with broccolini for dinner. It was delicious! After the washing up we watched a couple of episodes of Ted Lasso. We head for Kimba via Streaky Bay tomorrow, homeward bound
