4th June: woke up early to go birdwatching with Jill to the Derby sewerage  treatment works wetlands. We saw Ibises, egrets, Australasian Swamphens, a Black-necked stork(Jabiru) amongst others. The stretches of water were an eerie green colour perhaps due to the high BOD of the water causing lush growth of water plant life.Craig noticed a large rip in one of our caravan tyre walls so Nic and I decided that immediate attention in Derby was in order. We therefore headed for Derby via the Mowanjum Art and Cultural centre, which housed paintings of many Wandjina figures plus interesting weavings of types of wings which the dancers wear- either a type of ladder, a boat or even sea eagles wings.

We then visited Tyre Power where the diagnosis was terminal for our tyre. We arranged for them to fit our spare tyre early tomorrow morning. We then filled up with diesel and drove thru the wide Main Street of town ending up at the mudflats and wharf where the tide was out and I saw a black breasted buzzard high in a tree overlooking the mangroves bordering the mud flats.

I then bought car washing equipment so that we could embark on the serious business of a clean-up after yesterday’s adventures. We spent several hours on the van and the Prado-inside and out- not a perfect job but better than it was! There was a wonderful sunset in the direction of the mud . We had a simple omelette for dinner preceded by a G & T.

Don’t know how I managed to take this photo!
