11th June : woke to the beautiful musical notes of the pied butcher bird! I also saw green backed gerygones and a lemon-tinted honeyeater. We packed up and then visited the Craft centre- nothing too special really, and then the church with paperbark roof lining. We then drove not very far to Djarindjin campground, very new, government funded construction with indigenous management and profits to the community, like at Lombadina. After a cup of tea we decided to visit Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm on the cape Leveque peninsula - I bought some shells for Julia and Anna, but no pearls! We walked around but resisted the pearl farm tour. Jill went on a boat trip to Talon reef whilst Craig came with us to Ardyaloon community where aquaculture factory and aquarium were closed. We looked north and the sea was racing past us going west and north, ie going out.
We then drove to the Cape Leveque road, which was closed and has been closed since 2021.
Jill and Craig cooked a delicious mix of fennel and broad beans served with potatoes and carrots and my salad. We ate in the caravan due to mosquitoes! It is their last night with us before we part ways, and we had a lovely night together, with Nic watching some of the Aus vs South Africa test at Lords.
