April 25th: started the day with a sunrise view of the Rock from the nearby viewing platform accompanied by a rainbow and the lightest of rain. We ventured to the magnificent truely awe-inspiring Uluru and started at the Cultural centre -very professionally set out with a great deal of indigenous myth about the rock explained in detail. We were notified the the weather would probably be too windy for drones tonight at our Wintjiri Wiru event so we rescheduled for tomorrow night instead.
We then went to the Mala car park and initially planned to do the Mala and the KantjuGorge walks, which were wonderful with the same spiritual feeling we had 39years ago when being so close to the rock. At 2pm we then decided to do the Uluru Base walk around the rock and set off in a clockwise direction. Disappointingly, the walking path was quite a way away from the rock, compared to what it was when we did the walk previously! We didn’t see many walkers, just a few on unicycles and bicycles! Nevertheless less it was impressive! It took us just over 2 and 1/2 hours to do the 10.5 km.
We then drove to Kata Tjuṯa-, stopping at the sunset viewing spot, and the beginnings of the Waḻpa Gorge walk and the Valley of the Winds walk, and finally the dune viewing site for actual dusk, where you realise how big the Olga’s actually are!
We then ventured home quite late for a cup of tea and date AN ZAC biscuits saved from Coward springs. Dinner was Shakshuka recreated from the ubiquitous Vegie pasta sauce, followed by an early night!
Sunrise on Uluru
Love the wearing of white in the red dirt 😍
ReplyDeleteActually Paulette my clothes are very faded khaki! Wouldn’t bring white clothes on this trip!!
DeleteLovely photos Suzanne and thanks for the tips about walks and viewing spots. Will keep in mind when planning our trip to Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa.
ReplyDeleteLoving the fly net look! Totally uncool (as my kids would say) but oh so necessary. Your travels remind me of the Larapinta trail walks I did last year, so special.
